Directors Steven Cantor and Matthew Galkin were waiting in line for Pixies reunion tour tickets when they had a shared epiphany. "Wait a second. We're filmmakers. Let's make a Pixies movie! To hell with tickets!" And so loudQuietloud was born, documenting the Pixies' first live shows in over twelve years.

As one of the most influential and beloved alternative acts ever, they sold out concerts worldwide, typically in minutes. But the band members weren't totally confident they could deliver the goods. None of them had spoken during the intervening years, and the group's split had been an acrimonious one.

Cantor and Galkin covered the whole process, from the first awkward rehearsals— where frontman Frank Black struggled to remember his own songs—to the band hitting its stride in London and New York. Along the way, the band members variously struggled with addiction issues, infighting, and the difficulty of balancing families with life on the road. But as awkward as things got behind-the-scenes, onstage the shows were unquestionably pitch-perfect.

loudQuietloud features live performances of "Gigantic," "Here Comes Your Man," and "Where is My Mind," sounding as fresh and vibrant as they ever did. It also proves—thankfully—that reliving old glory is indeed possible.
